Frequently Asked Questions

I have been suffering from anxiety for many years now.  How do I determine what level of treatment service would suit me best?

An evaluation is scheduled with the director of the program to determine the best treatment modality.  Often times individuals will decide to start with individual therapy, and if needed, step up into the Intensive Outpatient Program for a higher level of care.

I have very mild anxiety that comes up during times of stress.  Do I have to be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder to utilize your treatment services?

No, many people come to see us for help with day to day worry or anxiety that comes up in the natural course of life.  Often times only a few sessions are needed to help learn some tools for coping, problem solving, and stress management.

Do people who suffer from anxiety and depression have to take medication in order to get better?

No.  During the evaluation, a thorough assessment is conducted to get an idea of the symptoms and difficulties individuals are experiencing.  If they are not taking medicaitons and want to begin the therapy without them, we will proceed forward.  If the therapy is too difficult and a medication consultation is needed, we will work to find the best referral based on each individuals needs.  Taking medication is always a choice that one makes and is never forced.  Additionally, it is not uncommon that individuals who come into therapy who are already taking medications, can taper off of them through the course of treatment.
